My Bonsai
Well. Like I said, I've started on my own Doggy Sweater. But, I ripped that out coz I mangled it. So, now, I'm making my own, from my head, just using the rough, though slightly larger than, measurements from Penny. I've added and inch to everything, pretty much. Also, because of the fact that I'm going to have to buy more yarn, but only will be able to buy more on Monday, It will be knit differently. What I'm doing, is knitting the first two and a half inches in the round, (2x2 rib), then knitting it flat for another ten inches, adding selvage on each side. Then, I'm going to do a garter increasing thing with the other yarn, which I will sew into the middle of the knitted falt ribbed bit. I'll show you when I'm done. I'll post a pattern.
Another patten on it's way is the bum-gloves. I haven't even taken a progress pic of them yet..but I havent done much, thats all. They'll be really cool! And odd, too. Very easy knits.
I am becoming interested in dyeing wool. I can't get Kool-Aid over here, so I'm having to explore other methods. I don't want to do anything toxic. And today, I came across how to make natural dyes, from plants and flowers! This is a wonderfull idea. I've seen it done in a lbog once before, and the wool just comes out beautifully! It's wonderful, because teh wool is natural, the dyes are natural, no-one inhales any toxic substances, nothing bad happens. And I feel it would add all the more to those hand knitted projects. I could make my own natural colourways and everything. And, being flowers and plants and roots and nuts, things of nature, you see which colours really suit each other. All the more natural. Natural colour selection. I think it's really spiffy!
So...I want a swift and winder and spinner and all that. Then , I can spin my own yarn, make my own dyes and dye it. Think of the cool stuff you could make? It would so add to a gift! (Not that I know what all that stuff is though. I'm doing a good Google at the moment.
My Dad's going to be here in..one month! that's four weeks, twenty eight days! Well, not really a real month, more like a calender month, but still. Not long now!
Oooh, I"m all excited about this natural dyeing and stuff! plus, did I tell you I was going to make my own stitchmarkers? Will get supplies when i go to the city! (If I've got enough mulah!)
Oooh, and you know what's the coolest thing? I've finally got my friends interested in knitting. Like, I didn't even do anything. I never pushed them. I just let them see how much I love it, and all the cool stuff taht can be made, and now they're asking my to teach them to knit! YESS! Too cool!
I asked my Dad if he could get me "Stitch n Bitch" by Debbie Stohller..I hope he does. I don;t like to ask, but it's something that I would really like to own. The patterns in it look great, I've heard many good things, and I would like to have a reference to cary around. Plus, I like to read, an apparently it's a good read, too. I hope he gets it!
Ok...Well, I think thats it! Bye bye!
I'll post some pics of the yarns I got from the schools stash which I'll be putting to good use in my Bonsai Sweater...soon.
