My over locker..Excuse the mess. My sewing machine is in the workshop being fixed. Mum got it when she was 19. She is now in her 40's. But it's a great machine, it just needed to be serviced and fiddled with alot. I'll get it back next week.
Mags and books I've gotten, L-R: "New Idea Encyclopaedia of Knitting and Crochet Stitches" , "Needlecraft" by Jean D Lane, Phildar Ete 2004, and Knit.1.
The first two I got for under $% all up from a Rotary Book Exchange place, which was next to where we put the sewing machine in. The New Idea book is really good, I see some great hat's and scarves coming along for the Winter. I'd doubtfully use any of the stitches or designs on a sweater or anything, but maybe some of them would make nice little edgings or something. $2.
Needle Craft is a text-book type book, but it's all about how to use the sewing machine to your best advantage, different seams and stuff. It's actually quite a good reference book, it'll definetly come in handy. And it was only $2.50.
Phildar Ete 2004 was from a trade, it's in Dutch though. There's not really anything in there that I like, now that I've got it. Which is kind of dissapointing. Coz the trade all up end up costing me $20. I know that doesn't seem like much to those of you who have real jobs, and a steady income...But I don't have either. The Macca's deal is yet to be updated, I've been told to expect a call either this week or next week. Grrrr.
Knit.1 is..For those of you in Australia, who know the teen magazines, it's like the Dolly of knittin Magazines. Trying too hard to be hip, full of impractical, or just plain useless things. I mean, it all looks great, wicked photo's and I love the layout (not to mention the fact that it's in English)..But, There's maybe one thing in there that I'll knit, and that's the neck thing. With Button's up the side. You know? But that's about it. Everything else is just trying too hard. I hope it's not something that people find in a million years and is "vintage" and they think everyone actually wore and knitted things like that. That would be horrible.
Went to Spotlight today. Yay! The visit was in anticipation of the sewing machine returning. I bought fabric for a hat I'm going to make. I'll draw up some templates and write up the pattern or a tutorial type thing later, maybe. But I'll have to wait 'till I get the sewing machine back. But aaanyways. Here are the fabrics. I'll make a nice big sling shoulder type bag thing with what's left seeing as I got a metre of the green stuff and 60cms of the flowery stuff. I also got some interfacing, though taht will only be used on the hat. Maybe the bottom of the bag....Maybe.
Zoom of lining. I love that sort of fabric. And that style with the white background and the blue flowery things happening? It looks delicate and lacy. I love it!
Also, I've been playing with my Zopfullover. AS you may recall, it was too short. So, I bit the bullet and cut off the bottom garter stitch rows. Picked up the stitches. And started knitting a 2x2 rib(to match the collar) until it was long enough. Now, I just have to do the front piece's ribbing (I've cut and picked up stitches..knitted two rows.) and the sleeves. The sleeves weren't too short, but they weren't as long as I'd like, and I like to roll cuffs up. And it would just look stupid if the had garter edges while everything else had ribbing. So there.
